My name is Smittens. I am a baby bunny who was saved by PAWS and the Rabbit Haven. I was dumped at the shelter after my owner thought it would be cute to photograph little black and white me with her black and white cat. She forgot that some cats who are nice to people, can see a baby bunny as prey. I was attacked during the photo session. I sustained multiple bites to my back and face. When the rabbit volunteer found me at the shelter, I was so frightened, tiny and weak. My face was so horribly swollen that my eyes could not be seen. My wounds were still moist with blood. My eyes were blood-shot from the head trauma. I wasn’t expected to make it through the night.
Fortunately, I was urgently rushed to a rabbit-savvy vet. Not just once, but twice due to my critical status. The vet tended to my wounds and gave me subcutaneous fluids. I had to be hand-fed with a special mix and given medica-tions for weeks. You can imagine that this type of critical care is very expensive. In the past, I would have been put to sleep. There are too many unwanted animals and not enough funds or good homes for all of us. I am grateful that because of the PAWS medical fund, my urgent medical needs were paid for, so as to not become a financial burden to the Rabbit Haven. I’m in the skilled hands of Heather Betchel, the director of Rab-bit Haven, so I recovering physically and mentally. If you’d like to adopt me, check out www.TheRabbitHaven.org in a few weeks. They expect me to make a full recovery. Thanks, PAWS!
