Pipkin's Story

My name is Pipkin. I’m here to spread to the word about an important project involving PAWS for SJACS and several Bay Area rabbit rescue organizations.
I used to live in a park adjacent to a San Jose school. If you saw my friends and family there in the park you might think we were happy nibbling on dried grass or grass on the sports field. In fact though, we are not cared for by the community and School. The grass tasted of fertilizer and pesticides at times. There was no food or water provided to us.
| “…The worst of times was when teenagers came to kill us with weapons such as stones and pellet guns. We were always in a heightened state of fear, awaiting the next danger. There has been a great loss of life in this place.” |
Sometimes humans would bring dogs to our homeland to hunt us. Other times people brought their children there to scare us into a frenzy. The worst of times was when teenagers came to kill us with weapons such as stones and pellet guns. We were always in a heightened state of fear, awaiting the next danger. There has been a great loss of life in this place.
I was saved by the PAWS rabbit advocate who found me crawling on the concrete side walk next to the park. I still had my eyes closed because I was less than 10 days old. I had crawled out of the safety of my nest because I was starving. My mother did not return to feed me. I understand that she likely died from the heat, starvation, or human or animal predators. Luckily, the PAWS rabbit advocate spotted me, swooped me up, and carried me home. I was cleaned up, syringe fed, and vetted. My matted eyes healed up and I’m much stronger now. Strong enough to prance and dance around my foster home! I know that I am loved.
I worry about my friends left in the park though and I know that rescue groups are trying to help them, but the rabbit advocates need help to get us proper medical care, food, housing and surgeries before we are re-homed. You can help us by donating to our care and rescue. Help us find some peace and happiness in life.
Love and Binkies, Pipkin
